Description
"Indian Hunter" by American artist John Quincy Adams Ward (18301910) stands in New York's iconic Central Park mid-park at 66th Street on the pathway west of the Mall and east of Sheep Meadow. Ward was later dubbed the dean of American sculptors. The statue depicts a Native American hunter, bow in hand, restraining his snarling hunting dog. It was dedicated on February 4, 1869, and was the first sculpture by an American artist to be placed in Central Park. This photo of the man's face shows the intensity and watchfulness of his focus and gaze.
